Summary:
 Students use iPads, iPod touches or laptops to create videos that explain a mathematical concept, conjecture, algorithm, or game in the style of the Khan Academy screencasts, In Plain English videos, MathTrain.tv, Club Academia etc.
Tasks:
  1. Class studies existing how to videos - Club Academia, Khan Academy, In Plain English videos, MathTrain.tv, Math Stories, Club
  2. In pairs or small groups, students select topic to be explained. (You will need at least 1 camera operator at all times if using a digital camera.)
  3. Students plan their project using index cards, storyboard, script, or outline
  4. Students practice their HowTo
  5. Students create HowTo
    • Option 1 - Use iPad App
      • Students use a digital camera/video camera if needed
      • Students create their HowTo using ShowMe, Explain Everything, iMovie or another similar app
    • Option 2 - Use a laptop
      • Students film or photograph their HowTo
      • Students use iMovie, GarageBand, Camtasia, MovieMaker, Photostory, Flip software, etc. to edit their HowTo
  6. Students export their HowTo to a format usaable on a class wiki or blog.
  7. Students upload their finished HowTo to the class wiki or blog. Or, better yet, create a class/school Multimodal Math Wiki "Textbook"
  8. Students comment on videos using blog/wiki tools
  9. Optional - Get outside "experts" to comment on the students videos, possibly getting those experts to help develop a 2.0 version of the video.
